Philip R. Harrang, age 96, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018 in Edina, MN. Phil was born on August 16, 1921 in Underwood, MN to Monrad and Mary Harrang. He was a member of Tingvold Lutheran Church, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School. He moved to California to work for Douglas Aircraft, and then spent time in Japan after enlisting in the US Army. On August 1, 1954 he married Anita Schulze in St. Paul, MN. Phil was employed by the USDA as a Food Safety Inspector for 30 years. After retiring, he and Anita lived in Pace, FL for 15 years before returning to MN. In June of 2013, Phil moved to Edina, MN to be cared for in the home of his daughter, Louise.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Doris Johnston and Dorothy Henry. He is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Carol (Ken) Johnson, Jim (Melanie) Harrang and Louise Shapiro; grandchildren, Dain (Stephanie), Connor, Evan and Ross Johnson, Bryant and Colin Harrang, Abigail and Nathan Shapiro.
Funeral service will be held at 3pm on THURSDAY, May 31 at MOUNT OLIVET LUTHERAN CHURCH, Minneapolis. Visitation one hour prior. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please send your memorial to the Alzheimer’s Association MN-ND Chapter.
